Prove your competence

The Certified Personal Information Officer - CPIO® exam is based on the job practice activities of information officers as specified in the Protection of Personal Information Act, its Regulations, and Guidance Notes. The job practices are organised in six domains: data protection legalisation, data subject rights, conditions, risk management, safeguards, and compliance management frameworks.

The Certified Personal Information Officer certification program is developed by the Information Officers Association specifically for those persons who are responsible for encouraging compliance with the conditions for the lawful processing of personal information, dealing with requests made regarding personal information and working with the Information Regulator.

The CPIO® exam is offered online and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions that cover six job practice domains determined from the analysis of job practices of information officers appointed by responsible parties under the Protection of Personal Information Act.

Certifications are a credible, independent assessment of a person’s skill and knowledge of the job practice areas for information officers under the Protection of Personal Information Act. They demonstrate competence in ensuring compliance with the conditions for the lawful processing of personal information.
